by Deirdre Tolhurst

In Dear Child of Mine, Deirdre Tolhurst finds the beauty in each day that passes from conception to birth. Addressing the growth of the baby within and giving God the glory for each of His miraculous works is the mainstay of this powerful devotional.

To be read out loud, each devotion begins with sweet words to the baby. The baby is told every day that it is loved and wanted, and the devotion notes what miracles are happening as the child grows. Followed by a prayer, the exciting changes inside the mother are spoken of with adoration of Gods kindness and miraculous ways. A scripture completes the devotion, always bringing the glory back to God.

This uniquely personal devotional has lines included each day so the mom can write the feelings and thoughts that captured her own heart at that stage of her pregnancy, making this a beautiful heirloom for generations to enjoy!

Your book is amazing! To say there’s been one devotion that has captured my heart would be a lie. Most all have. It’s amazing to see my unborn baby through God’s eyes! I know it was He that gave you every word. I also know if women can get this book early in their pregnancy it will stop many abortions from taking place. This book may have started out to Mary, but God only used her as the inspiration. This book was written to many mothers and babies. GOOD JOB my dear friend. GOOD JOB!

Deirdre Tolhurst was born in the Bronx, NY, and grew up in Northern New Jersey. She moved to Central Texas in 1977 and married her husband in 1981. She was a Quality Control Editor for government contractors for over 23 years. Her first book, A Christmas I Remember, a children's book, is available at her website, It is the true story of a Christmas Eve when she was a little girl and a heavy snowstorm came in causing her to worry if Santa would make it. The illustrations were taken from actual pictures of her house, her parents, baby brother, and herself.

Her second book, Dear Child of Mine, An Heirloom Devotional for the Unborn Child was written for her first grandchild while in utero. The 241 daily prayers are meant to be read aloud so the baby can hear the prayers and scriptures. Sometimes it is hard to think of what to pray over our baby, but this book changes that. With devotion subjects like heart, lungs, pancreas, laughter, leadership, growth, peace, wisdom, joy, future friends, and gratitude to God for His miracle inside, and the beauty of the world we live in. There are lines on each page for the mother to journal about that day's devotion or how she is feeling that day.

The beginning of each week lists the changes that the baby and mother's bodies are going through. Then each day from Week 6, Day 1 until You Are Here, the mother speaks to her child, Dear Child of Mine, then she prays to God, Dear Father God, and then a scripture beautifully ties them both together. After the child is born, the scripture should be familiar to him. For those who have forgotten how powerful prayer is, this will certainly renew their spirit.

She is currently writing her first Christian novel. She and her husband of 37 years live in Salado, Texas.
